Atlas (2024) by Boston Dynamics is a fully electric research humanoid with direct-drive actuators and 360° joints — a proving ground for industrial autonomy that Nexon System helps enterprises evaluate and integrate.
Last updated: 19 May 2026
Atlas (2024) marks Boston Dynamics' shift from hydraulics to a fully electric humanoid built for real industrial work rather than demonstrations. At about 1.5 m tall and 89 kg, this generation trades the acrobatics of its predecessor for the reliability, serviceability and torque density that factory environments demand.
The platform's defining feature is its electric direct-drive actuation, which delivers high torque with fast, precise response and a joint range that lets Atlas reorient itself in ways human bodies cannot. Perception comes from a combination of time-of-flight and RGB-D cameras, stereo vision, high-rate IMUs and joint encoders, giving the robot the accurate state estimation and environment mapping needed for autonomous operation. On the software side, Atlas ties into Boston Dynamics' Orbit fleet-management platform and runs advanced AI models on NVIDIA's Jetson Thor compute for real-time perception, control and decision-making.
Boston Dynamics is aiming Atlas at manufacturing, logistics, construction and warehousing — sequenced, repeatable tasks where a dexterous, tireless humanoid can add capacity.
