BabyAlpha Dev-Q is an open-source quadruped robot from WEILAN in China, aimed squarely at developers. At around 0.31 metres tall and 7 kg, it is a compact, accessible platform that gives researchers and educators a hands-on base for building and customising robotic applications.
The WEILAN BabyAlpha Dev-Q uses high-performance joint motors optimised for dynamic, efficient quadrupedal locomotion, and includes position encoders, an IMU and available interfaces for custom sensor integration, allowing access to environmental perception sensors depending on configuration. Its open-source control and perception software stack supports ROS and exposes APIs for motion control and sensor integration, with roughly 120 minutes of runtime. That openness lets teams reprogram behaviours from the ground up and add the sensing their projects require.
