EMIEW3 is a 0.9 m, 15 kg humanoid from Hitachi of Japan, created to help people in busy public spaces. Its small, mobile design lets it approach visitors, answer questions and physically lead them where they need to go, acting as an active guide rather than a static kiosk.
The robot moves on a four-wheel base driven by 21 DC motors controlling 23 degrees of freedom across its head, arms, hands, legs and wheels for smooth, human-like motion. Sensing combines front and rear HD cameras, a LiDAR laser range finder, a 14-channel microphone array and a gyroscope with environmental sensors, so it can hear clearly and navigate crowds. Cloud-based AI handles multilingual voice recognition, image processing and service coordination, supported by remote management for fleets across a site.
As a customer-facing service robot, EMIEW3 suits wayfinding and guidance, retail assistance, and corporate events and exhibitions. It can greet guests, understand several languages and guide them through airports, stores and public venues, making it valuable wherever international visitors need help.
