Compact at 1.38 m and just 40 kg, the EngineAI SA01 is an accessible humanoid from EngineAI of China. Its smaller frame and open-source foundation make it a practical entry point for teams that want to experiment with full-body robotics without the footprint, cost or logistics of a life-size platform.
The SA01 relies on EngineAI's self-developed harmonic joint modules, offering smooth torque control up to 330 Nm across its many degrees of freedom for natural, powerful motion. A perception stack of Intel RealSense depth cameras, 360-degree LiDAR and multiple HD cameras delivers 3D awareness, obstacle detection and environment mapping. The open-source control layer combines reinforcement learning, multi-sensor fusion and real-time motion planning with adaptive gait, giving researchers deep access to inspect, modify and retrain the behaviours that drive the robot.
As a programmable humanoid robot, the SA01 supports academic and industrial research, healthcare-assistance studies and classroom instruction, where its open software lets learners work directly with perception, planning and locomotion instead of treating the robot as a sealed black box. Its manageable size also makes it easy to move between labs and lecture rooms.
