Last updated: 01 Jul 2025

Overview

HUBO 2 is a research humanoid from Rainbow Robotics in South Korea, standing about 1.25 m tall and weighing around 45 kg. A well-known walking-and-manipulation platform, this humanoid robot has long served as a testbed for dynamic legged motion and full-body control.

It moves through 40 degrees of freedom driven by 40 brushless DC motors of varying power ratings, from 200 W down to fractional-watt units, giving smooth and responsive motion. Perception comes from cameras, three-axis force-torque sensors and two-axis inertial and tilt sensors. Its closed control software runs in real time on Windows XP with the RTX extension, layering motion planning, sensor fusion, vision processing and force feedback.

With that articulation and sensing, the platform is built for advanced robotics research, where teams study walking, running, dancing and manipulation on a proven full-body humanoid. Its long track record makes it a reliable reference platform for benchmarking new locomotion and control algorithms.

Nexon System supports the Rainbow Robotics HUBO 2 for research groups across Southeast Asia, delivering commissioning, control and task programming, and integration with your research and simulation systems. We add training and reliable support so your team can push the platform to its full potential. Talk to Nexon to establish a humanoid research platform.
