MagicDog is a four-legged robot developed by Magiclab in China. Measuring roughly 0.56 metres at the shoulder and weighing about 17 kg, it is a nimble, mid-size platform that balances developer accessibility with enough ruggedness for real inspection and patrol duty.
The quadruped robot reaches speeds of up to 3 m/s and runs for around 150 minutes per charge. Its perception suite is unusually broad, combining 2D LiDAR, a binocular camera, a depth camera, a 4K HD camera, a fisheye camera and ultrasonic sensors, while twelve high-precision aluminium-alloy joint motors deliver up to roughly 37.5 N·m of torque. An open software stack adds AI-driven autonomous navigation, sensor fusion, obstacle avoidance and a developer-friendly API and SDK for building custom behaviours.
Magiclab aims the MagicDog at education, research, entertainment, inspections and security patrols, where its speed, rich sensing and autonomy support everything from classroom coding to routine facility rounds. The open SDK makes it especially attractive for teams developing custom autonomy, while its cameras and LiDAR let it capture detailed data during automated patrols of plants, campuses and perimeters.
