Overview

PR2 is a landmark research platform from Willow Garage in the USA, standing about 1.65 m tall and weighing roughly 200 kg. A foundational humanoid robot for the ROS ecosystem, it gave the field a common, capable base for manipulation and mobility research.

Its two compliant 7-DOF arms carry force-sensitive joints and fingertip sensors for adaptive, delicate object manipulation. Perception spans a 5-megapixel RGB camera, a tilting planar laser scanner, an inertial measurement unit and a structured-light texture projector for 3D sensing. As an open platform it runs the Robot Operating System with a 3D point cloud library for perception plus motion-planning and manipulation libraries, all on an omnidirectional base.

That openness and rich sensing make it ideal for robotics research and education, and for exploratory work in home assistance, healthcare and retail automation, where reproducible experiments matter. Countless algorithms in mobile manipulation were first demonstrated on this platform, and it remains a dependable teaching and benchmarking tool.

Nexon System supports the Willow Garage PR2 for universities across Southeast Asia, handling commissioning, ROS-based application and task programming, and integration with your research toolchain and data systems. We provide training and steady support so the platform keeps serving your lab. Talk to Nexon to establish a manipulation research platform.
