Overview

RoboThespian is a performing humanoid from Engineered Arts in the United Kingdom, standing about 1.75 m tall and weighing roughly 33 kg. Designed to entertain and inform audiences, this humanoid robot is a fixture of science centers, exhibitions and stages around the world.

It moves through 26 degrees of freedom using Festo pneumatic actuators combined with brushed DC motors, giving smooth, precise and lifelike gestures. Cameras and infrared depth sensors enable gesture and pose recognition for responsive interaction and environmental awareness. Its closed core software runs on Gentoo and Ubuntu Linux, using OpenNI for gesture recognition, with Python scripting, API support and the TinMan telepresence system.

That theatrical, interactive design makes it a natural fit for education, entertainment, applied research and corporate events and exhibitions, where an engaging, remotely controllable presenter captivates crowds. Operators can script performances in advance or drive it live through telepresence, so it can host, teach or perform to a packed room.

Nexon System deploys the Engineered Arts RoboThespian across Southeast Asia, providing commissioning, performance and interaction programming, and integration with your venue, content and audiovisual systems. We add staff training and ongoing support so every show runs smoothly. Talk to Nexon to plan an interactive exhibit deployment.
